'Rodri Will Pick Him Apart': How Harry Kane Can Cost England's Golden Shot At History in Euro Final?

As England prepares to face Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday, there is a big question mark looming over their captain Harry Kane's form in this tournament.

Harry Kane has uncharacteristically struggled for England at Euro 2024 having scored two goals but his performances have been unimpressive. Given his struggles in the tournament England manager Gareth Southgate has in the Quarterfinals and Semi Finals decided to take off the English skipper when games were on a knife edge for the three lions. 

On the eve of the final former Manchester City and Chelsea player has shared deep concern over how Harry Kane's old habit back from his Tottenham Hotspur playing days can cost England in the finals of Euro 2024.

How Harry Kane can cost England in Euro 2024 final against Spain? 

Harry Kane has always been a player who loves to drop deep for his Spain to link up and transition into attacks in games. He has been doing this from his playing days since Tottenham Hotspurs. 

But this hasn't particularly worked for Kane in the Euros with England. And according to Terry Phelan, if Harry Kane continues to drop deep against Spain then he will cost England deerly as Spain and especially their midfield maestro Rodri will pick Harry Kane apart. 

"My only worry with Harry Kane is if he starts dropping deeper and deeper and deeper. I remember he used to do it at top knot spurs, but he had pace and power with Son going beyond him and multiple players going beyond him. I think if he does that, then it will play into the hands of the Spanish. And listen, Rodri will just pick him apart," said Terry Phelan to Republic in a select media interaction.

Terry Phelan believes that for England to beat Spain in the finals, Harry Kane will need to play higher up the pitch and threaten the Spain backline. 

"I think what he's got to do is play higher up the field. He is a goal scorer anything in that six yard 18 yard box he's likely to get on the end. I don't think he's great when he does drop deep because then he can't get further up the field when balls are going into Saka and Fode and into them wide areas, so I think it'd be more of a threat", said Terry Phelan to the Republic.

Gareth Southgate will look towards Bench if Kane does not perform

If Harry Kane continues to struggle and England are in a bit of pickle then ‘The Scuttler’, Terry Phelan has no doubts that Gareth Southgate will look towards his bench and pip Kane just like he did in the Quarters and Semis. 

“You've got cole palmer who's been absolutely fantastic for Chelsea, he's come on he showed it, could he have played more minutes I'm sure he could have more impact. I think England have got that in their armoury haven't they they've got that on the bench they can throw players on you know they've got players who are exciting young players who can really cause Spain a bit of damage maybe in the latter parts of the game,” concluded Terry Phelan.
