Renowned as the world's best top goal scorer, Ronaldo's extraordinary abilities and successes confirm his status as a footballing superstar for decades. However, one of the toughest periods of his career came when he left Manchester United, ending his second stint at Old Trafford, after an alleged altercation with the coach Erik Ten Hag, which led CR7 to publicly criticize the coach before leaving the club on a mutual consent back in November 2022. Ex-coach for Manchester United discusses how Cristiano Ronaldo's inflated ego has contributed to his success
Now 39, Cristiano Ronaldo is generating ripples in the football scene well beyond of Europe. Although he left the European leagues, both fans and future players will always remember him for his outstanding records and stats.
Ronaldo is now giving his top class services at Al-Nassr, a role he adopted in January 2023. In 78 games throughout all levels, he has scored 71 goals and given 17 assists. Consequently, what gives him the energy to keep performing so well even now, so late in his career? Rene Meulensteen, his former coach at Manchester United, has some observations.
Meulensteen, a member of Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching squad, discussed Ronaldo's ongoing success in a chat with Boyle Sports. Meulensteen said:
"It’s true that Cristiano Ronaldo’s ego has been the key to his lasting success and that’s in a good way, he refuses to ever let his standards drop. He would never turn up to training and give anything less than his maximum effort and you can see that is still the same now at 39 years of age."
"He’d never even sprint at 70%, he is all or nothing and has worked so hard on the pitch as well as on his brand, he has a billion followers and he can do whatever he wants next. He does everything to the best of his ability and always pushes his own standards forward.”
Cristiano Ronaldo will now be seen in action against Al-Orobah on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
