'He’s Got That Arrogance!,': Manchester United Legend Hails Alejandro Garnacho's Performance vs City

Manchester City and Manchester United tied 1-1 in normal time in a heated FA Community Shield encounter; Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock for United in the 82nd minute only for Bernardo Silva to equalise for City in the 89th minute. The game descended into penalties, and Manchester City emerged triumphant, 7-6 on penalties. With City enjoying 56% possession and United with 44%, both teams showed very outstanding ability.

Rio Ferdinand praises Alejandro Garnacho for his heroics in the Community Shield Final, despite the team's loss

Rio Ferdinand gave Manchester United's developing sensation Alejandro Garnacho compliments for his strong performance on Saturday, August 10's Community Shield against Manchester City. Though he made his appearance on the pitch as a  replacement, the 20-year-old winger soon made his presence felt and gave the Red Devils' assault new vitality.

Entering the game in the 59th minute, huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan Garnacho started to impact play right away with his explosive runs and quick passes. One of his best moments was in the 75th minute when he supplied Marcus Rashford with a clean scoring opportunity but the English forward's effort sadly landed against the post.

But Garnacho discovered the net himself in the 82nd minute, precisely aiming for the bottom corner, thereby giving Manchester United the lead. Garnacho's effort was a highlight for United even though City equalised just seven minutes later after Bernando Silva scored  and finally the Manchester in Blue prevailed in the penalty shootout with a score of 7-6.

Looking back on the game, Manchester United icon and famous football pundit Rio Ferdinand praised the young mercurial during his program, Rio Ferdinand presents, stressing Garnacho's outstanding performance in the game. Rio Ferdinand said: 

“Garnacho, he comes on and changes the game. He is a wonderful footballer by the way. This kid looks like he’s got that arrogance - ‘get me on that pitch. I’m the guy, build around me.’ [Garnacho looks like he means to tell] Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, INEOS, 'I’m your guy'."

“That’s the way he moves to me, that’s the vibe I get from Garnacho. He looked like our most potent player. Comes on for 45 minutes and looks like our most productive player.”

“He just fills me with so much enthusiasm because of his appetite for the big moments. He’s saying, ‘give me the ball in the big moments, I’m going to take this game [on] and get you a goal.' It’s a valuable asset to have when you’ve got someone who is so young, enthused and wants to hurt the opponent with every single opportunity.”

As the 2024/25 season approaches, Alejandro Garnacho is anticipated to pull a Cristiano Ronaldo, as Manchester United now heavily relies on the young star. He has been a key player for the Red Devils and will eye glory with the club under Erik Ten Hag.
