Kylian Mbappe acknowledges his UEFA Euro 2024 failure after Spain eliminates France
After France lost 2-1 to Spain in the semifinals at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, Kylian Mbappé said that his Euro 2024 quest was a failure.
Randal Kolo Muani scored the first goal in Munich with help from Mbappé. But Spain scored two goals in response, and they will play either England or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday in Berlin.
The star player from Real Madrid only scored one goal in five games, a penalty against Poland in the group stage. According to L'Equipe, Kylian Mbappe said:
"My competition? It was difficult,"
"It was a failure. We had the ambition to be European champions; I had the ambition to be European champion. We aren't that, so it's a failure.
"It's football. We have to move on. It's been a long year. I'm going to go on holiday and get some rest -- that'll do me a lot of good, and I'll try and come back strongly."
Mbappé smashed his nose in France's opening game against Austria, hence beginning a dismal campaign.
This damage kept him out for the draw against the Netherlands. After his return, he played against Belgium, Portugal, and Poland while sporting a protective mask. But uncomfortable with the mask, he decided not to wear it in the semifinal against Spain.
It is important to note that Kylian Mbappe will now be seen in action in a Real Madrid jersey after he left PSG for free. He is set to be presented in Spain after his holiday as the club will start its pre-season.
