Julian Alvarez's heartfelt message for Man City after $100m deal; Atletico uploads funny post
The $100 million (€95 million) move makes Julian Alvarez the second-most expensive signing in Atletico Madrid’s history.
Atletico Madrid has officially confirmed the signing of Argentine forward Julian Alvarez from Manchester City in a blockbuster deal worth over $100 million (€95 million). The transfer, which sees Alvarez move to La Liga after a successful stint with the Premier League champions, marks one of the most significant deals of the summer transfer window.
Julian Alvarez, a key member of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, has made a name for himself as one of the most promising young talents in world football. During his time at Manchester City, the 24-year-old striker scored 36 goals in 103 appearances, playing a crucial role in City’s domestic and European successes.
The $100 million (€95 million) move makes Julian Alvarez the second-most expensive signing in Atletico Madrid’s history, behind only Joao Felix, who remains the club’s record signing. Felix, who was signed for €126 million in 2019, is currently attracting interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa and Chelsea, sparking speculation that his future at Atletico might be uncertain.
Atletico Madrid confirms arrival of Julian Alvarez
Atletico Madrid announced Julian Alvarez’s arrival with a creative post on their social media platforms. The club referenced the striker’s popular nickname, ‘La Arañita’ (The Little Spider), which stems from his unique goal celebrations where he mimics Spider-Man’s iconic web-shooting pose.
Atletico’s post on X (formerly Twitter) included the caption, "Sorry, the designers are on vacation," along with a playful image of Spider-Man acknowledging the new signing and his well-known celebration style.

To the directors and the technical staff, thank you for the trust and support. His teachings and vision helped me to develop in a great way,” Alvarez wrote on Instagram.
“To my teammates, thank you for every moment shared, for the effort and dedication in every training and in every game. I learned so much from each of you and I carry with me memories and friendships that will last forever. Manchester City will always have a special place in my heart. I wish them all the success in the future and will continue to support the club from wherever,” he added.
