Kylian Mbappe-led France reach the Euro 2024 quarters after Kolo Muani's goal puts Belgium at bay

With a deflected shot by Randal Kolo Muani, France defeated Belgium 1-0 to move to the quarterfinals of the European Championship to stay in the competition.

In a highly competitive affair at the Düsseldorf Arena in Germany saw Kylian Mbappé make it through and reach his first Euro quarterfinal with France. In a clash where both sides tried to cancel each other's shots, Belgium saw a massive blunder as defender Jan Vertonghen failed to stop the ball and handed the opposition an own goal. Kevin De Bruyne's side failed to prevail as they couldn't score against the French side's line of defence as the Round of 16 stage continues in the European Championship.

Vertonghen's rebound off his leg allows France to gain the lead over Belgium, reach the quarterfinal 

On Monday at the European Championship, Randal Kolo Muani's deflected shot gave France a 1-0 victory over Belgium, sending Kylian Mbappé and his team to the quarterfinals. At the Düsseldorf Arena in Germany, Kolo Muani attempted a shot in the 85th minute that rebounded off Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen and over goalie Koen Casteels. The own-goal blunder allowed the French side to gain the edge as the Kevin De Bruyne-led side tried to scramble but failed to connect the ball with the net.

In a poor quality match, where the sides neutralised one another, Captain Mbappé was once again spotted donning a mask to cover his broken nose. He had five wonderful opportunities to hit the target, but none of them were on the line.

Mbappé will be competing in his first-ever quarterfinals at the European Championship after France succumbed to Switzerland in a penalty shootout during the tournament's last Round of 16 in 2021. In the quarterfinals on Friday, France will now take on the victor of Portugal vs. Slovenia in the Round of 16.
