In their UEFA Euro 2024 debut, France secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Austria in Group D. The only goal of the match came via an own goal by Maximilian Wöber in the 38th minute. The French team dominated possession with 52% and produced 14 shots, three of which were on target. The match witnessed 18 fouls, with Austria receiving 5 yellow cards. With this win, France joins Netherlands at the top of Group D, setting a strong foundation for their Euro campaign. The match took place at the Merkur Spiel Arena.
Kylian Mbappe issues first response after he broke his nose during France's UEFA Euro 2024 opener vs Austria
Kylian Mbappe's lighthearted response to his injury after colliding with Kevin Danso during the game against Austria was evident on social media, where he humorously inquired about mask ideas. The 25-year-old footballer's resilience and strong performance before the incident were notable, and there are speculations that he may need to wear a protective mask for the remainder of Euro 2024. Despite the setback, Mbappe's positive attitude is what France requires after their not-so-pleasing performance in the UEFA Euro 2024 opener vs Austria.
Kylian Mbappe, 25, was badly injured in the 87th minute of the game after colliding with Kevin Danso of Austria. As such, the Les Bleus skipper had to leave the pitch, and in the ninetieth minute, Olivier Giroud came in.
Following the Group D triumph of France over Austria, Didier Deschamps talked about Mbappe's injuries. As transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported, he said:
Yes, Kylian Mbappe has probably broken his nose.
Diario AS claims that Kylian Mbappe might spend the rest of Euro 2024 in Germany wearing a safety mask. The new signing for Real Madrid had a strong showing before his injury. An own goal by Austrian defender Maximillian Wober resulted from his outstanding cross. Mbappe also won six of ten ground duels, three of six dribbling attempts, and both of his aerial duels.
Strangely enough, Mbappe sat down and re-entered the pitch, earning him a yellow card. While allowing Austria to substitute, Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano refused France the same chance.
France will now be seen in action against the Netherlands on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
