LaLiga: Player ratings from Real Madrid's 5-1 win over Leganes

There has been a pattern to Real Madrid this season which may have gone rather unnoticed. Before their Champions League game against Galatasaray, there were rumours aplenty that Zinedine Zidane would be sacked, and that Jose Mourinho would take over the reins at the Bernebeu. As if on cue, Real Madrid registered a victory in that fixture. As Real Madrid prepared to play their 10th game of the 2019-20 LaLiga season, the rumours of Jose Mourinho's return once again came to the surface. Again, on cue, Real Madrid produced a performance to allay those fears.

Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid registered a 5-0 win over bottom-placed Leganes to put Zidane's men second on the LaLiga table. The 18-year-old Brazilian Rodrygo Goes was handed a first start of the season of Los Blancos and duly repaid Zidane's faith by netting Real Madrid's first goal of the night after seven minutes. Just a minute after Rodrygo's goal, Toni Kroos was set up by Karim Benzema, as the German doubled Real Madrid's lead in the eighth minute. Eden Hazard was brought down by the Leganes goalkeeper Juan Soriano. The resultant penalty was converted by Real Madrid's captain, Sergio Ramos. Three goals in the first 24 minutes of the game meant that Real Madrid took a comfortable lead into the break.

Real Madrid were gifted another penalty in the 69th minute, Luka Modric being the victim this time. Karim Benzema stepped up this time to dispatch the penalty and put Real Madrid up by four goals. But the long night for Leganes was not over yet. Luka Jovic came on for Karim Benzema, with the former Eintracht Frankfurt striker enduring a goal drought for Los Blancos. Facing a team that was bottom-placed in the LaLiga seemed like the perfect opportunity to end his drought, and the Serbian did so when he headed in a cross from Dani Carvajal. The win also included a rare clean sheet for Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Here are the player ratings from the game.
