Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have had an intense rivalry over the years and being a part of the rivalry is more tough when footballers have played for both the Madrid teams.

Atletico Madrid’s key striker will be out of the upcoming derby clash as he picked a red card in their win against Mallorca. In 2007, he started his career with Getafe as a youth player. Morata signed for Real Madrid in 2008. He made 46 appearances for the club before leaving for Serie A giants Juventus in 2014 with Real Madrid including a buyback clause. He returned to the Bernabeu side in 2016, shining in their Champions League win. Meanwhile, in 2017, Chelsea announced that Morata’s transfer deal of £60 million. He had a disappointing season with Chelsea. Finally, he came to his current club, Atletico Madrid in 2019.

Real Madrid legend Raúl González Blanco started his career with Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard never featured for Atletico Madrid in the top flight. Raul, who was 15-years-old at that moment, made a move to the Bernabeu side in 1992. He made 741 appearances for Real Madrid, netting 325 goals and assisting 99.

Alvaro Morata is not the only player who found himself playing for both Real and Atlético Madrid's top-flight team via a spell at Chelsea. Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois completed his move away from Stamford Bridge six months before his former teammate Morata. The 27-year-old played for Atletico between 2011 and 2014. He won a LaLiga and a Copa del Rey title with the club. Real Madrid signed Courtois after his incredible performances in the World Cup in Russia for €35m.

The Spanish footballer, who currently plays for Brazilian club Sao Paulo, started his career playing for Elche’s youth club before he was called out to Real Madrid’s first team. Spending two years at the Bernabeu, he went out on a loan deal with Osasuna. They signed Juanfran permanently in 2006 for just €400k. After five years, Juanfran signed for Atletico Madrid, where he made 342 appearances.
