Manchester United fans baffled at how Andre Onana replaced David de Gea after Bayern loss

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, Bayern Munich took on Manchester United at home in a UEFA Champions League group stage. There were seven goals in the game at the Allianz Arena. Thomas Tuchel's team defeated Erik Ten Hag 4-3. United lost the game despite Bayern faltering in the last minutes. United are enduring a poor start to the season due to defensive struggles.

Andre Onana had a performance to forget against Bayern Munich  

This summer, Manchester United put a lot of faith in Andre Onana, which turned out to be a terrible choice in the end. Onana's shocking mistake allowed Bayern Munich to win 4-3 on Wednesday, putting more heat on manager Erik ten Hag.

At first, the Red Devils looked good and even had a few chances to go ahead. But it was Onana's weak attempt to stop a shot by Leroy Sane that seemed harmless that changed the game and put Manchester United on the defensive. Bayern scored goals from Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, and young Mathys Tel after this defeat.

Even though Rasmus Hojlund scored United's first goal and Casemiro scored two late goals, it was still a bad night for Ten Hag. The boss knows that they have to win their next game against Burnley.

Onana is known for having great skills with the ball, but he is also known for not being able to stop shots very well recently after his move. A custodian should have been able to easily stop Sane's hopeful shot, which broke the tie and was Bayern's first shot on goal. Unfortunately, it got away from Onana, which meant that all of United's early efforts went in vain. 

David De Gea was let go because he was not in the plans of the Erik ten Hag despite having the most Premier League clean sheets last season. But it looks like his replacement, Onana also makes mistakes that cost a lot. It is important to note that David de Gea was with the club for over 10 years and his experience could have played a key role for Ten Hag. 

But after making a horrible error in the most important game of his United career so far and giving up 14 goals in his first six competitive games, it is clear that he'll have to get used to the attention and criticism.
