Manchester United hosted Liverpool Football Club on Sunday, October 20. The game ended to a 1-1 draw after Adam Lallana scored a late equaliser for the visitors. Speaking to Sky Sports, United's former manager Jose Mourinho gave a post-match reaction about his former sides draw against the Premier League leaders.

Match Report

Marcus Rashford gave the home side the lead in the first half from a counter-attack, as Daniel James' cross was touched in by the striker. However, the goal resulted following a foul by Victor Lindelof on Dvock Origi, which VAR deemed fair. The second half saw United defend in numbers as Liverpool pushed for an equaliser. Their pressure paid off when Adam Lallana came off the bench and scored from close range in the 85th minute to restore parity in the tie.

Mourinho's Reaction

Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp was left frustrated after the game as he felt VAR should have overturned the first-half goal as a foul was made in the buildup. Also, United's approach to play compact and defensive football which didn't allow Liverpool to play their natural attacking football added to his frustrations.

But when asked for his thoughts on Klopp’s frustrations regarding United’s approach to the match, Mourinho simply stated that Klopp was frustarted because he couldn't get the win. Mourinho acknowledged United's limitations being the reason behind their approach against a stronger opposition like Liverpool. Liverpool who like to hit sides in transition and counter-attacks were starved off chances by the compact defending by United's three centre-backs and the midfielders, according to Mourinho. He also made a point about Liverpool's struggles against a low-block such as last night.
