Matthijs de Ligt regrets picking Juventus over Barcelona according to Patrick Kluivert

Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert feels Matthijs de Ligt already has regrets about choosing Juventus over Barcelona after being closely linked with a transfer to the Camp Nou this past summer.

Transfer saga: Matthijs de Ligt to Juventus

Matthijs de Ligt was at the centre of one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer following a campaign in which he helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title and reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool were among the European giants linked with the central defender, but it was Serie A champions Juventus who ultimately won the race for his signature. The Italian club paid €75 million to Ajax to snap up the youngster.

Matthijs de Ligt and his early struggles in Serie A

However, De Ligt's move to Serie A hasn't been as smooth as he must have hoped, with his first few months at the Old Lady dotted by several glaring mistakes and lapses in defence as he strives to adapt to life in Serie A. The 20-year-old recently boosted his reputation, however, after he scored his first goal for the Bianconeri in a 1-0 derby victory over Torino.

Patrick Kluivert thinks Matthijs de Ligt regrets move

Speaking to an Italian outlet, Patrick Kluivert, who made 257 appearances for Barcelona and now works as an academy director at La Masia, has suggested that his fellow Dutchman may have made a mistake in choosing Juve. Kluivert has said he thinks defender Matthijs de Ligt "slightly regrets" his decision to join Juventus this past summer.

He also admitted that he would have loved to see the Dutch defender at Barcelona but he personally never tried to convince him to choose the club.
