'Messi travels 400,000 kilometers in four years' - Infantino justifes World Cup every two years

A full review of the soccer calendar that included a World Cup every two years would benefit South American players more than Europeans, said FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a visit to Argentina Football Association headquarters outside Buenos Aires this Monday.

The head of the football governing body of football cited the proposals of experts who propose a new Men and Women calendar, highlighting that everything is in consultation stage.

Referring to the long trips during international breaks, Infantino said that the current calendar is more negative for South Americans than for Europeans.

He also argues that, long trips - with the effects of climate change and jet lag - end up reducing the physical condition of the players at the end of the season, something that also has repercussions when they have to compete in a World Cup.
