England and Liverpool Icon Michael Owen Picks His Three Favourites To Win Ballon d'Or In 2024

The Euro 2024 have brought much drama and excitement to the table during the summer break post the 2023/24 season. With Copa America also working simultaneously it has been a great time for football. 

Like every year there's a lot of chatter around who will win the Ballon d'Or in 2024 and the ongoing Euros and Copa America are going to have much sway where France Football's best player of the year award might be heading. Former Ballon d'Or winner and Liverpool's legendary striker Michael Owen has picked the three favourites to win the Ballon d'Or in 2024.

Michael Owen picks his three favourites to win Ballon d'Or

Former Real Madrid forward, Michael Owen when quizzed about his favourites to win Ballon d'Or in 2024 had no hesitation in saying that this year the Ballon d'Or will be heading back to the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player will win it. 

Owen revealed that either one of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr or Kylian Mbappe will win the Ballon d'Or in 2024. He said that Euros and Copa America will be a deciding factor between the three players. 

“If England win the European Championship then Jude Bellingham will win the Ballon d'Or If he doesn't win the European Championship then I think somebody like Vinicius Jr will win it. If France win the European Championship and (Kylian) Mbappe scores three goals in the finals then Mbappe could win. I can't really see the winner coming out of anybody else than these three players”, said Michael Owen to Republic in a roundtable. 

Michael Owen further went on to say that as it stands Vinicius Jr is the clear favourite to win the Ballon d'Or saying, “If football stopped now as if it stops today then I think Vinicius Jr will win the Ballon D'Or”.

However the Englishmen did maintain that given Jude Bellingham's imperious form throughout the season a European Championship would make him the favourite. 

“But absolutely, If England win the European Championships then I guess Jude Bellingham will win the Ballon D'or.  He's won the Champions League, he's won La Liga. He's been a great player all season and if he wins the European Championship I think he wins the Ballon D'Or,” concluded Michael Owen.  

Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr both were instrumental in Real Madrid wining their 36th La Liga and 15th Champions League crown hence their performance in Euros and Copa America could be the final needle.
