Netherlands vs Poland: Hamburg Police shoot man before kickoff as Euro 2024 festivities turn CHAOTIC
Ahead of the match between Netherlands and Poland in Euro 2024 at Hamburg, Police have shot a man in a troubling incident.

Netherlands are all set to face Poland in their Euro 2024 group stage opener at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Germany. Ahead of kick off both Netherlands and Poland supporters were seen at the top of their spirits as they are all set to cheer their teams on in the tournament in Germany.
However, the pre game Euro 2024 festivities have ended up turning sour as Hamburg police in a statement confirmed that they shot a man down in the St Pauli district of Hamburg ahead of kickoff between Netherland and Poland.
Hamburg Police shoots man before Netherlands vs Poland Kickoff
Hamburg Police in their official statement on X confirmed that they had indeed fired shots at a man who was threatening to attack the police officers via a pickaxe in the St Pauli district of Hamburg.
According to the police, multiple shots were fired at the man and a detailed investigation will take place into the matter. The man is currently undergoing medical treatment after suffering injuries from the shots.
In a video shared on Social Media, the fan was seen threatening the police and then running towards a group of Netherlands fans with the axe. It was at this point the police decided to shoot the man.
The police presence and activities in St Pauli have been increased due to this incident. However, the hooligan incident has not affected the buildup to the game.
“At St Pauli, there is currently a major police operation. According to initial findings, a person threatened police officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device. The police then used their firearms. The attacker was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment,” said Hamburg Police in their official statement.
Netherlands and Poland supporters celebrate peacefully
Before the match between Netherlands and Poland kicked off in Euro 2024, both teams fans were seen celebrating throughout the day and sending their teams a lot of support.
However, despite the St Pauli incident both sets of fans have been celebrating peacefully and the police have not had any concerns to deal with the fans.
