Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a winter move for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison. The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form for Leicester this Premier League season, with three goals and two assists.
The player made his Premier League debut last season and went on to have a total of 14 goals for the Premier League side. Maddison created more chances (100) than any other player in the Premier League 2018-19 season, and Manchester United are well aware that it will take a huge amount to lure him away from Leicester City.
Manchester United will have to spend big for James Maddison
Going by recent spending spree by United, with Harry Maguire’s big-money signing, Leicester City will not want their star man to leave cheaply. United fans raked up their demands for the player’s signature following his exceptional performance in Leicester’s 0-9 rout of Southampton. Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez both scored hat-tricks in the match, while Maddison scored the team’s eighth goal, scoring a free-kick past Angus Gunn. It was a result that earned the Foxes a place in the history books as the team with the biggest-ever away win in league history and Maddison was at the heart of it.
James Maddison is yet to receive his senior international debut for the England national team, but manager Gareth Southgate has had a tough selection headache recently, thanks to the rise of Chelsea’s Mason Mount.
Manchester United are looking to add depth to their midfield, with the injury of Paul Pogba. The club’s dismal form this season has invited criticism from all quarters, and the management is expected to spend big in the winter transfer window, to ensure a top-four Premier League finish.
