- Andre Gomes' horrific injury overshadowed Everton's 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend. Gomes was the victim of a late challenge from Tottenham's Heung-min Son. He then collided with Serge Aurier and landed awkwardly on his ankle, resulting in a brutal injury. Son, who was shown a yellow card for the challenge, was then sent off after intervention from VAR.
As Andre Gomes writhed in agony on the pitch, substitute Cenk Tosun rushed towards the Portuguese international to cradle his head in order to prevent Gomes from looking at his ankle. The fans who had a view of the incident were pictured averting their gazes after one look at Andre Gomes' injury. While there was no malice in Son's challenge on Gomes, the South Korean international was pictured with his head in his hands. On being shown a red card for the offence, Son left the pitch in tears, devastated by the extent of Gomes' injury.

Premier League: Post-traumatic stress disorder worry for players
Now, it seems like the players who witnessed the injury are at risk of developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after the incident. Such was the horror of Andre Gomes' injury, that the Everton players surrounding him immediately placed their hands on their heads in disbelief. Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier was pictured praying on the field after the incident. Son was also left utterly devastated after the incident. However, Everton captain Seamus Coleman made his way to the Tottenham dressing room after the game to console Heung-min Son and assure him that there was no blame attached with the Tottenham winger. It is likely that Son may require some counselling before taking to the field again, in order to ensure that the South Korean international does not develop post-traumatic stress disorder.
Meanwhile, Gomes underwent successful surgery on Monday, November 4. However, setting a timeline on his return is extremely difficult, considering the extent of his injury. Gomes is likely to be ruled out for the season.
