Raheem Sterling issues public apology after spat with England teammate Joe Gomez

Raheem Sterling has issued a public apology to his England team-mate Joe Gomez after he got too aggressive and violent in a bust-up with the latter. Sterling has also been left out of the England team for their EURO 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday.

Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez clashed more than once

Raheem Sterling clashed with Joe Gomez in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday. The England winger was booed heavily by the home fans while he also clashed with England teammates Jordan Henderson and Trent-Alexander Arnold during the game. Sterling's frustration seemed to get the better of him when he once again got into an argument with Gomez while on international duty with England.

According to multiple reports, the City winger was sat in the players’ canteen when Gomez arrived and greeted him. Sterling then reacted aggressively to Gomez’s greeting and is reported to have attempted to grab Gomez by the neck. However, the incident did not escalate after their teammates separated the two players.

England drop Raheem Sterling

England manager Gareth Southgate soon released a statement on Monday saying that Raheem Sterling would not be available to play against Montenegro in the Euro 2020 Qualifiers but would remain with the squad. The Football Association released a statement revealing the Manchester City superstar had been dropped 'as a result of a disturbance in a private team area'. This means Sterling will be forced to watch England's 1,000th game from the stands.

In a statement posted on his Instagram page, Raheem Sterling issued a public apology to Gomez and apparently it seems the matter is now sorted between the two. Sterling admitted that emotions got the better of him in the wake of the bust-up at St George's Park.

Sterling will be available to play against Kosovo in England’s final EURO 2020 qualifier on Sunday.
