Raheem Sterling set to be selected for Sunday's Kosovo game: Gareth Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed on Wednesday to British media outlets that Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling will return to the squad for their clash against Kosovo. England have two more games to play against Montenegro and Kosovo in their Euro 2020 qualifier campaign. Sterling was dropped by the coach from the squad to face Montenegro on Tuesday due to an off-field scuffle with fellow England teammate Joe Gomez.

Sterling and Gomez clashed during a League match

In the recent Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, Joe Gomez tried to shield the ball from Raheem Sterling on the byline. With the clock running down, Sterling was having none of it and decided to try and steal the ball from Gomez with a bit of aggression. Gomez appeared to turn around and shove the Manchester City winger, which, once again, left Sterling furious.

However, that wasn’t the end of their feud. Reports suggested that Gomez greeted the Manchester City forward in the players’ canteen at St. George’s Park. Sterling then reacted aggressively to Gomez’s greeting and attempted to grab Gomez by the neck. The pair had to be separated by other England players, who initially thought that Sterling was joking.

When asked by the British media whether Sterling would be available for the match against Kosovo, Southgate replied that they prefer to move forward and that the way he has trained especially since the incident has been exemplary. He went on to confirm that Sterling is with the group and that is the most important thing. He is a massive part of what England do, has been an important part and will be in the future.

England need only one point against their Group A opponents Montenegro to secure qualification for the Euro 2020 competition. England’s encounter at Wembley against Montenegro will also see the team becoming the first nation to play 1,000 international matches.
