'RUINED EVERYTHING,': Lionel Messi Criticized as Inter Miami Settles for Draw Against Atlanta United

Atlanta United battled Inter Miami in a fierce game to tie 2-2. David Ruiz and Leonardo Campana of Atlanta found the net; Inter Miami scored from Saba Lobzhanidze and Aleksei Miranchuk. Both teams showed offensive ability, with Inter Miami having somewhat more possession in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Both sides gave a fair exhibition of ability and will near the end of the game.

Lionel Messi trolled after a disappointing performance vs Atlanta United

Following Lionel Messi's subdued performance in the 2-2 draw against Atlanta United, several Inter Miami fans voiced their annoyance with the Argentine star on X. On September 18 the teams squared off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Messi has had an incredible year collecting 16 goals and assisted 12 times in only 16 games, despite being absent for 12 matches this season due to injury.

Coach Tata Martino decided to rest Messi in this game, therefore putting him on the bench. Inter Miami scored the score in the 29th minute by David Ruiz; Atlanta equalised in the 56th minute with a header from Saba Lobzhanidze. Just three minutes later, Leonardo Campana returned the Herons in lead with a free kick goal.

Seeking a victory, Messi came onto the pitch in the 61st minute. But Aleksei Miranchuk produced an incredible goal to tie the game in the 84th minute. From two tries, Messi only got one shot on target, hence his attacking performance was mostly useless.

Messi’s lacklustre performance propelled the internet into a frenzy where many claimed that Inter Miami was better without Lionel Messi. 

Inter Miami will now be seen in action against New York City FC on Saturday.
