Sampdoria halted their miserable run of form by securing a 1-1 draw against Lecce in their last Serie A outing. Sampdoria looked set to be condemned to their eighth defeat of the season. However, a late equaliser from Gaston Ramirez secured a draw for Claudio Ranieri's side. 

Claudio Ranieri has enjoyed a rough return to Serie A since taking over at Sampdoria earlier this season. Ranieri's former side AS Roma are currently third in the Serie A table, which will not make for good viewing for the former Premier League-winning manager. With five away losses so far, another away game in the Serie A will mean that Claudio Ranieri's men will have a chance at putting a halt to their miserable away form this season. SPAL have won two, lost two, and drawn one game in their five home games this season. Considering that they hosted high-scoring Atalanta, Ciro Immobile's Lazio as well as Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli during this period, Leonardo Semplici's men will be in high spirits ahead of Sampdoria's visit to the Stadio Paolo Mazza.
