Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been announced as the new Aston Villa manager after the Premier League outfit parted ways with their previous head coach Dean Smith. Gerrard made the move after he was the manager for the Scottish team Rangers FC. According to Gerrard's former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher, Gerrard would have won a few more titles if he had stayed on with the Rangers.

Carragher also said that it would have 'torn' Gerrard that he had to leave a club as big as the Rangers which is one of the biggest in the world but when a Premier League team comes calling it is almost impossible to say no.

"I think Stevie would love to have added another league title and done four years there and won the title twice and they were in a great position to do that," Carragher told Sky Sports. "It’s not a given, obviously there’s the second half of the season, but to come away from Rangers having two titles and also then going into that next job which everyone felt was always going to be the Premier League with a season in front of you is always ideal for a manager. That’s where it may have torn Stevie. It’s halfway through a season, he’s straight into with Aston Villa, but in terms of going from the SPL to the Premier League, I just don’t think it’s a decision. That’s unfortunate for Celtic and Rangers, two of the biggest clubs anywhere. I’m not going to be disrespectful to those clubs as they’re actually giants. But it’s not how big Villa is compared to Rangers, it’s how big the Premier League is compared to the Scottish Premier League and it’s night and day.

Carragher asked on 'Gerrard to Villa' better deal for whom

When asked whether it’s a better deal for Villa or Steven Gerrard, Carragher initially replied saying that he is not sure but then said, Gerrard. He explained that it was his first job in the Premier League and getting a job with a club as big as Aston Villa is huge for him. He further states that Villa could maybe have gotten other managers but nonetheless he thinks it is a great deal for both the club and the manager.
