Spain captain Alvaro Morata speaks on his injury vs Croatia highlighting his availability against Itlay
Fans were concerned even though Spain won their Euro 2024 opening 3-0 against Croatia on Saturday, when captain Alvaro Morata was replaced in the second half because of an injury.
With around twenty-five minutes left in the game, the Atletico Madrid attacker was taken out due to an impact injury. But during the post-match news conference, the 31-year-old striker reassured fans that his early departure was only a precautionary measure following a knock. After the match (via Sportskeeda), Alvaro Morata said:
"I'm fine, it was a blow. Sometimes when you have a strong blow, you feel that other areas of your leg are loaded, and the best thing was to leave,"
“Ready for Italy,”
"I thought we played well. We put a terrific national team under big pressure. This is a template for how we have to approach all our matches right from the start,"
"When so many fans who are dedicated to getting behind us come to a big match like this we really notice the difference. Our supporters were great. And I want to thank them because they helped us start really well!"
"My first chance got away from me because the ball didn't move quickly on a dry pitch and that affected my control. The second came when I knew I'd opened a channel down the middle for a pass and I knew Fabián would put it where I needed,"
“And after a lovely assist, Fabián's added a superb goal of his own!”
Alvaro Morata missed an earlier chance because of the ball's trajectory influence, but he finally scored in the 29th minute. In the meanwhile, Fabian Ruiz showed remarkable control by giving Morata a crisp assist that let him score Spain's second goal. With such dexterity, Fabian eluded Croatian defenders and then slipped the ball into the net. Along with increasing Spain's lead, this goal gave them the impetus to continue controlling the game and win the first half. Spain National Football team will now be facing off against the defending champions, Italy on Friday June 21, 2024.
