Fernando Alonso Given Survival Warning To Fully Utilize The Expertise Of Adrian Newey

Formula One driver and two time World Champion Fernando Alonso would be looking to win his third Drivers Championship now that F1 design legend Adrian Newey has joined the ranks of Aston Martin. Adrian Newey has been credited for making some of the most Championship winning cars in the history of Formula One. Now that he is at Aston Martin, Alonso would be hoping to go after his third championship. 

Alonso Given Survival Warning 

Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve gave his insight on what Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin should expect with the signing of Adrian Newey. He stated that Fernando Alonso needs to survive for a few seasons to see the magic of Adrian Newey. 

“If anything, next year’s car will not be an Adrian Newey car.

“The key for Fernando now is to survive long enough to get a winning car. You don’t do that by beating Stroll at a second a lap.

“Part of Fernando’s job there is to help Lance improve, to help the team get to that point, not for Fernando to be champion, but for Aston Martin to be champion.

“That’s why Newey is joining the team,” stated Jacques Villeneuve on what Alonso needs to do to survive long enough to go for his third championship. 

Villeneuve Gives Insight Into What Newey's Cars Are Like 

The former world champion also gave insight into what it is that Adrian Newey's cars offer their drivers. He explained that cars designed by Adrian Newey are tricky and precise to drive. He also stated that a regular driver who is not exceptional will suffer in that car.

“From my experience, Adrian Newey has always made cars that are very precise to drive.

“They’ve always had a narrow window of preparation, but they had super performance if you could take advantage of that window.

“It’s not a car for everybody. He makes cars for exceptional drivers and exceptional drivers will make a big difference in those cars; the regular driver will suffer,” said Villeneuve.

Adrian Newey is currently focused on making the RB17 hyper car and will then shift his focus to Aston Martin's car for next season.
