Rwanda and f1 Bosses Set To Hold Talks About Potential New Grand Prix

The African nation of Rwanda has its sights set on holding a Formula One race in the country. To pitch this bid, the representatives of Rwanda and Formula One top bosses are all set to hold talks next month to further push this idea.

One of the biggest targets for Formula One has been to have a race on the African continent to further increase the reach and fan following of the sport all over the globe. It has been understood that several African nations are interested in hosting a Formula One race but Rwanda is the only one with serious and advanced plans.

FIA Ceremonies To Be Held In Rwanda 

Rwanda has been showing an increasing interest in Formula One with its representatives traveling to the Monaco GP to hold talks with the FIA.

The Annual FIA General Assembly and Prize Giving Ceremony will also take place in Rwanda this year. While speaking to motorsport.com F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali gave several insights into Rwanda’s bid to host a race.

Rwanda Serious Contenders To Become African Hosts

Domenicali said,” They are serious. They have presented a good plan and actually we have a meeting with them at the end of September. It will be on a permanent track.” Formula One was earlier on a target to expand its viewership in the USA and it has achieved this target with having three races in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.

The F1 circus has now shifted its eyes towards Africa and Stefano Domenicali stated, “We want to go to Africa, but we need to have the right investment, and the right strategic plan. We need to have the right moment, and we need to make sure that also in that country, in that region, in that continent, there is the right welcoming, because, of course, they have other priorities. We need to be always very careful in making the right choices.”
