Musk reveals details

Almost a year back, Tesla CEO Elon Musk made a tweet that shared a fake screenshot of a news site. The news article said that Elon had bought Fornite and deleted it to save kids from "eternal virginity". People went crazy over the joke in the tweet and it went on to be retweeted almost 400000 times. This morning, Elon Musk retweeted his old tweet adding a modest "Haha" to it.

The tweet in which Musk is trying to suggest that he deleted Fortnite is a joke. If you were wondering if Elon Musk actually deleted the game, the answer is a sober No. Musk has a reputation for being a very social media-friendly businessman/engineer which is something that is very seldom seen with people of Musk's stature. Musk breaks the stereotypes that are usually projected onto the rich and successful and this tweet of his shows exactly that. Fortnite is a pop-cultural phenomenon and enjoys a very loyal fandom. Being this culturally relevant also makes Fortnite at the receiving end of several memes.

Why is Fortnite down?

Fornite has now been down for nine hours. A cosmic explosion in Season 11 rendered darkness on the entire Fortnite universe and the game has not been up since then. Millions of players across the world have stared at a Black Hole which has been the only thing they can see for the last nine hours. Fortnite has gone on to maintain the aesthetic throughout their social media accounts as well. The Fortnite avatar is now just a black photo. An earlier accidental leak on the Apple App Store revealed that Fortnite was coming up with a "Chapter Two". The screenshots which were shared throughout the Internet show a new map and the "Chapter 2" title. This blackout could be a strategy that Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, are using to generate a buzz around the game, only to reveal the new chapter. Only time will give us answers but till then... we can stare at the black hole.
