Amit Rohidas And Sumit Achieve Special Milestone During India vs Germany 2nd Test
Rohidas, who plays the key role of the first rusher in the Indian PC defence, made his debut in the Indian Hockey Team at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2013.
The Indian Men's Hockey Team defender Amit Rohidas on Thursday earned his 200th International Cap for India. The experienced defender, who hails from the Sundergarh district of Odisha , achieved the milestone during India's second match during the India vs Germany Bilateral Hockey Series 2024 here at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
Rohidas, who plays the key role of the first rusher in the Indian PC defence, made his debut in the Indian Senior Men's Hockey Team at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2013 in Ipoh, Malaysia after an impressive display for the Indian Junior Men's Hockey Team at the 2011 Sultan of Johor Cup, and 2012 Sultan of Johor Cup.
Rohidas, who honed his hockey skills at Panposh Sports Hostel, Rourkela, represented India at the 2013 FIH Junior Men's Hockey World Cup held in New Delhi. He also played at the 2014 Hockey Men’s World League Final 2014. Rohidas made a comeback to the National side after putting up a solid show in the Hockey India League in 2017 and went on to become a mainstay in the Indian team.
Rohidas also represented India at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup in 2018 and 2023. He played a vital role in India’s Bronze-medal winning success at Tokyo Olympics 2020 and in 2024. He also helped India attain a third-place finish at the FIH Hockey Pro League 2021/22 and win the Silver medal at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2021 for his historic performance in Tokyo. "I am thrilled to complete my 200 international matches in front of home crowd in India, here in the capital at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand Stadium. It been a great ride with the Indian team and I look forward to many more memorable outing,” expressed Rohidas.
Sumit completed 150 international matches
The India Vs Germany match today saw another milestone as Sumit completed his 150 international matches. The midfielder, who hails from Sonipat, Haryana , made his debut for the India Junior Men's Hockey Team at the 2014 Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia. He made a name for himself after his splendid performance in India's Gold-medal winning performance at the Junior Men's Hockey World Cup Lucknow 2016.
After making his debut for the Indian Senior Men's Hockey Team at the 2017 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Sumit became a regular member of the Indian team.
After helping the team win the Gold medal in the FIH Men's Series Finals Bhubaneswar Odisha 2019, Sumit became a part of the Indian Men's Hockey Team that won the historic Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the Paris Olympics in 2024. "It is a special moment for me to complete 150 international matches for India here in front of our home crowd. I look forward to contributing to my team's success as we go forward with new targets in mind," stated Sumit.
Congratulating Amit Rohidas and Sumit on achieving this milestone, President of Hockey India Dr Dilip Tirkey said, “I congratulate Amit Rohidas for completing 200 international caps and I also congratulate Sumit on completing 150 international caps. Both Amit and Sumit have been integral part of the Indian team. They have contributed immensely to the team’s rise in world hockey and I wish them the best in their endeavour to further the team’s performance in this new Olympic cycle.”
