In a major embarrassment to the Congress Government in Chhattisgarh, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday rejected the proposal to appoint Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as the State Association President. The IOA in a letter to the ad hoc body, a copy of which is with Republic TV, says the proposed appointment was illegal and IOA did not recognize or approve any decision taken by the ad-hoc committee.
The letter reads:
"We have seen the attached news article of 6th Nov 2019 and wish to make it clear to all concerned that Indian Olympic Association (IOA) does not and will not accept decisions taken in unauthorized meetings."
"IOA will only take note of such decisions taken in meeting's when such meeting's are called by the legally authorized persons of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association."
"I will request all people to refrain themselves from taking part in such type of activates."
The news article referred in the letter had mentioned that Chhatisgarh State Association was dissolved after years and an ad-hoc committee was constituted which proposed the name of Baghel.
The final recognition for any state association lies with the IOA as its parent body.
