Arguably, John Cena is one of the most famous names in the WWE universe. He made his mark in the wrestling world with his unique style and great physique. John Cena's famous taunt "You Can't See Me" has become a trademark in the star's name. There is quite an amazing story behind this world-famous taunt. John Cena, in his book "Hustle, Loyalty & Respect: The World of John Cena", gave a brief explanation about it.
The taunt came from a funny incident:
“It’s a gift and a curse because people who like me do it and so do people who don’t.”
“The ‘You Can’t See Me’ thing was a joke from my little brother,” John Cena explains. For a long time, people wondered about the origins of his famous diss. John Cena and his brother were testing out some hip-hop beats for John’s upcoming album when they came up with this trend. “My family is a bunch of idiots,” jokes Cena. “This stupid song came on, we started dancing around, and my brother Sean did this dance from a video where he moves his head around his hands.”
“I just had to modify it a little bit,” says Cena. “Instead of shaking my head around my hand, I shook my hand around my head.” And just like that, a memorable catchphrase was born. “Let me state for the record that I hate the word ‘catchphrase.’ It’s like ‘think outside the box’ or any of those other marketing terms. It’s just ugly.” Cena added.
'You Can't See Me'
This funny accident proved to be very fruitful for John Cena's career. Once he entered the WWE's dream world, the term "You Can't See Me" caught on to the WWE Universe. Whenever John used to throw his open hand toward the arena roof, fans used to shout out their lungs to the hilltops along with him.
“It works from a camouflage, invisibility aspect but ‘You Can’t See Me’ in general is telling someone they are not where I’m at competitively. I’m on another level", the Champ explains.
