Bad weather has forced the cancellation of a men's World Cup Alpine combined event on Friday.

FIS said the race was called off “due to the rain and snowfall during the night, the current weather situation and the forecast for the day.”

There was no immediate word on whether the race would be rescheduled ahead of the March 16-22 World Cup Finals in Cortina, Italy.

Alexis Pinturault of France, who won the Alpine combined discipline title three times, leads the season standings with 180 points from two events, followed by Norway's Aleksander Aamodt Kilde with 112 and Switzerland's Loic Meillard with 110.

The races in Austria also include a super-G on Saturday and a giant slalom on Sunday.
