Conor McGregor is all set to make his blockbuster return to UFC at the UFC 303 at the end of this month against none other than Michael Chandler.
The Notorious last fought in UFC nearly three years ago against Dustin Poirier when he was forced to retire from the trilogy fight by picking up a stress fracture in his leg. Conor McGregor has been rehabilitating since then and is set to mark his much awaited return on June 29th.
However, ahead of his return, Islam Makhachev's manager has dropped a huge bombshell. Should Conor McGregor beat Michael Chandler on his UFC return there is a very high possibility that the Irishman could go on to get a title shot against Makhachev for the World Lightweight title.
Is Conor McGregor vs Islam Makhachev title bout on the cards?
In the buildup to Conor McGregor's much awaited return all the chatter suggested that Mac wasn't going to be taking the title fight. However, contrary to the reports, Islam Makhachev's manager Ali Abdelaziz has suggested that a fight between the two is very much a possibility.
“Listen it's very possibile...It’s a crazy sport, Conor might go in there [and] knockout Chandler in the first round, and then you know he’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Like him or hate him, he is. If he tells the UFC ‘Hey, I want a title shot, Islam wants a title shot’ – that can be your next title shot, Islam is not going to say no, he’s not going to say no to this fight,” said Ali Abdelaziz to Submission Radio.
Conor McGregor has a long and outstretched history with Islam's coach and mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov and given this history Ali believes that UFC and Dana White will have a great opportunity to earn a lot of money.
“If there’s one thing that I know about Dana White is that he likes money and he likes business. It’s a big fight, it’s a big name, it’s a lot more money and at the end of the day," said Ali.
Islam Makhachev only just defeated Dustin Poirier to defend his World Lightweight title once again, he is on the look out for his next fight and if Conor McGregor does make a winning return to UFC then another title shot can very well be on the cards.
