‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier was close to retirement from UFC after his fight against Islam Makhachev back in June, 2024 when he lost the shot to become UFC Lightweight Champion in a submission. Ahead of UFC 309 announcement the rumors suddenly started to swirl about Dustin Poirier's return to the promotion.
The rumors intensified in the past couple of days with suggestions that Dustin Poirier will face Colby Covington at UFC 309 as he sets sight at his return. As it turns out, Dustin Poirier has dropped a major update on his UFC return.

UFC fans were left confused in the past few days when a rumor was believed to be true that Dustin Poirier would fight Colby Covington at UFC 309. However, there has been no official confirmation on whether the fight is scheduled to take place or not.
But now, Dustin Poirier himself has come out and dropped a big hinto on whether he is set to mark his UFC return with a fight against Colby Covington or not.
Dustin Poirier posted a photo on his Instagram with a bleeding nose and a caption saying, “The game goes on”.

When Dustin Poirier lost his fight against Islam Makhachev he was pretty certain that he didn't have it in him to go through another fight in hic career.
“I mean I know I can compete with the best of these guys. It's just like If I do fight again, What am I fighting for? Just to fight , I've done that 50 times. You know I don't know and I got a little girl I love and I got to see, I think this could be it,” said Dustin Poirier.
It looks like Dustin Poirier might have changed his time one last time and will be on course to mark his return to UFC.
