IOC launches Olympic channel in Hindi; Move is aimed at improving Indian engagement

Hindi is the latest language added to the long list of the international languages which help fans access the content on the Olympic Channel.

The International Olympic Channel will now be available in Hindi, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently announced. The development comes in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The decision is a strategic measure to increase engagement of amongst Indians on the official media channel of the Olympics. Hindi is one of the 12 languages offered by the IOC.

Greater engagement from Indians

The platform will feature multiple Olympic starts and stories from across the globe, which boost the excitement around the games throughout the year. Fans will also be able to engage in content which will be focussed on international stars as well as local heroes. The IOC also released a four-episode docu-series Shakti: India’s Super Women. The series will focus on Indian female athletes Dipa Karmakar, Deepika Kumari, Sakshi Malik and Sandhya Shetty, who have overcome various obstacles to achieve their dreams. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Sports, in a tweet appreciated the move and claimed that it will give a "boost to India's Olympics campaign".

Mark Parkman, general manager of the IOC’s global Olympic Channel said, "The availability of the Hindi language on the global digital platform is a significant step in the Olympic Channel’s evolution as we look to create more personalised experiences for Olympic fans around the world. This is a great way to engage with more fans in growing markets and to tell the great Olympic stories in a way that connects directly to them as we build excitement on the road to Tokyo 2020.”

The Olympic Channel is a multi-platform global media destination where fans can discover, engage and share in the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round. Offering original programming, news, live sports events and highlights, the Olympic Channel provides additional exposure for sports and athletes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in 12 languages. The Olympic Channel is also available in languages such as Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, etc.
