Can India Win Anymore Medals At Paris Olympics After Neeraj Chopra Misses Out On Gold?
India's Paris Olympics campaign is coming to an end with Neeraj Chopra bagging a silver in men's javelin throw final. Can India win anymore medals?
There were a lot of expectations surrounding Neeraj Chopra to retain his Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics as he was considered to be one of the favourites in men's Javelin. However, Neeraj Chopra missed out on Gold this time and had to settle for a Silver Medal with a throw of 89.45m.
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem denied Neeraj Chopra of his Gold Medal as he threw an Olympic record 92.97m. As India's best hopes for a Gold Medal ended with a Silver it is almost certain barring a miracle that India will be returning home from the Paris Olympics without a Gold Medal.
India's Medal Tally at Paris Olympics
India had a lot of expectations going into the Olympics that they could better their medal tally of 7 Olympic medals in Tokyo 2020. The aim was clear from the beginning to win atleast 10 Olympic medals.
However, as it turns out India have only won 5 medals till now in Paris Olympics. Three of those medals have come in shooting with Manu Bhaker, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale winning Bronze for their nation. Their 4th medal at Paris Olympics was also a bronze as Indian men's hockey team came managed to win against Spain. And their 5th medal was the Silver won by Neeraj Chopra.
India currently sits 64th in the Olympics medal tally.
Can India win any more medals at Paris Olympics?
India does have a chance to win another medal at Paris Olympics when Indian Wrestler Aman Sehrawat will take on Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in Men's 57 kg freestyle Wrestling bronze medal match. If he does win the medal for India it will be the country's 6th medal at this year's Olympics.
India can also win their 7th medal if Vinesh Phogat's appeal with Court of Arbitration is accepted and her Silver medal is restored.
