Huge Row As Boxing Judges' Decision Leaves India's Nishant Dev Devastated
Following the culmination of the bout, India's Olympic hero Vijender Singh opined that even he has failed to understand how the scoring has been done.
The judges in boxing have often come under scanner over their questionable decisions, and the same old controversy has landed in Paris Olympics. Indian boxer Nishant Dev, who was just one win away from guaranteeing himself a medal, couldn't believe when he saw his Mexican opponent's hand being raised. Dev was confident that he won the fight and many experts also adjudged the Indian as the winner of the close contest. Thus, the judges scoring garnered attention and the Indian fans who stayed late to witness Dev enter the semi-final expressed anger and claimed injustice.
Nishant Dev's Exit Creates Row On Internet
Following the culmination of the bout, India's Olympic hero Vijender Singh opined that even he has failed to understand how the scoring has been done. Along with Singh's reaction, several other responses to the result inundated the social media space.
Nishant is the fifth Indian boxer to be eliminated from the Paris Olympic Games. The sole Indian boxer remaining in the competition is Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain. She will compete in the women’s 75kg quarterfinal on Sunday against Asian Games champion Li Qiang. Although Lovlina has lost both of her previous matches against Qiang, she defeated her to win the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships and is striving to become the first Indian boxer to earn two Olympic medals.
