Jordan Chiles Case: How Just a Four Second Delay Got US Gymnast to Lose Out On Paris Olympics Medal
Jordan Chiles loses out on bronze medal as The Court Of Arbitration For Sport ruled that Chiles coach had submitted the scoring inquiry four seconds too late.
American gymnast Jordan Chiles has been heartbroken with all of the drama that has surrounded her bronze medal win in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Jordan is being stripped of her bronze medal in the floor exercise category of gymnastics as it has been ruled that the scoring inquiry was filed four seconds after the deadline by her coach.
The International Olympic Committee announced on Sunday that they will be stripping Chiles of her bronze medal after the decision came from The Court Of Arbitration For Sport. Jordan Chiles took to social media to express her displeasure as she posted a story with a black background and four broken hearts.

United States Ready To Fight Decision
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee have stated that they would fight this decision and help Jordan Chiles get her medal back. USA Gymnastics, the governing body of the sport in the USA has also taken up a fight against the decision as they posted a statement on their social media page citing they had filed a letter and video evidence which showed conclusive proof that the appeal was not late and within time limits.
The statement stated that the USA coaching staff had filed the scoring appeal within 47 seconds of the score and being posted.
The Racist Angle
Chiles winning the bronze medal completed the first ever all-Black podium in Olympics history. Chiles faced a lot of abuse and hate online due to the initial decision from the judges to raise her score. Jordan's sister took to social media to voice her displeasure and wrote- ““Racism is real, it exists, it is alive and well.”
Chiles amidst all the hate posted on social media that, "I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health thank you.” The U.S.O.P.C. and U.S.A. Gymnastics released a joint statement together condemning the hate and abuse that Jordan Chiles has been receiving.
The Events As They Happened
During the floor exercise, Chiles was given a score of 13.666 points which put her in fifth place in the standings. Chiles was the final competitor and as she completed her routine the scores were posted up putting her in fifth place. Ana Barbosu according to the standings was in third place.

As the celebrations were taking place, Chiles coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi was filing an inquiry with the judges regarding Chiles not being scored for one of her leaps. The scores were then updated and and Chiles was moved into third place leaving a devasted Barbosu in tears.
