Lakshya Sen To Fight For Bronze Medal, Loses To Viktor Axelsen In Semi Finals At Paris Olympics

Lakshya Sen will fight for Bronze medal in Badminton men's singles after losing to Vikto Axelsen in the semi finals of the Paris Olympics.

Paris Olympics 2024: Lakshya Sen has fallen to Super Dane and defending champion Viktor Axelsen in the badminton men's singles semi finals as he misses out on making the finals. However, Lakshya Sen could create history for India as he will now play Bronze medal match vs Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia. 

Lakshya Sen despite playing with confidence couldn't match the quality of Axelsen on the day as Super Dane won in two sets 22-20, 21-14. 

Lakshya Sen's missed opportunity 

It's not that Lakshya Sen got dominated by Viktor Axelsen as he had great chances to change the outcome. Sen lost three game points in the first set. He was even up by 7-0 in the second set but lost from there on.

The first set started with the defending champion Victor Axelsen inching to a 5-2 lead early on. However, Lakshya Sen fought real hard and some amazing smash play meant he was soon level and back into the contest. 

It was a neck to neck affair until Lakshya Sen took the lead at the break 11-9. Post the break Sen didn't look back and put a massive gap in between the two as he took a 15-9 lead. 

Lakshya Sen kept his foot on the gas in the first set and was on three game points 20-17. However, Axelsen like he so often does stormed back and took the first set 22-20 to stun Lakshya. 

Lakshya Sen had stormed to a 7-0 lead in the second set but Axelsen bounced back once again as Lakshya Sen led 11-10 at break.

However, the Super Dane tightened up his screws and stormed to take the second set by 21-14 and advance into the finals to defend his gold medal. As for Lakshya Sen, he now has to regroup himself and get ready to bounce back as he aims to hand India its first Olympic Medal in Men's Singles Badminton.
