Manika Batra was enjoying a valiant Paris Olympics campaign as she shrugged off past frustrations to become the first Indian TT player to qualify for Pre-Quarters at the Summer Games. However, her dream of making an historic Quarterfinal came to an end when she lost to World Number 8 Miu Hirano.

With this Manika Batra's singles Table Tennis run at Paris Olympics came to an end, however she will still participate in team events.

How Manika Batra lost in Round of 16

Manika Batra never really got it going for India in the Round of 16 clash against Miu Hirano.

The match started in worst possible manner for Manika as despite playing with top intensity and on top of her form, Manika Batra had way too many unforced errors and found herself 2 games down.

In the third game, Manika raced to a 7-2 lead but saw Japan's Miu Hirako equalise and take Game point. Manika Batra managed to thwart off the challenge and saved the game as she closed in on 2-1.

However, in the next two games frustration was getting to Manika as she kept on making errors and got the advantage. Hirano capitalised to win the next two games and proved to be way too good a match for Manika as the Japanese trumped the Indian to advance to the Quarterfinal.

Despite the loss, Manika Batra could bow out with her head held high as she went further than any other Indian table tennis player at Olympics until Sreeja Akula's match later on.
