'We Were Unlucky': Harmanpreet Singh Opens Up on India's Heartbreaking Loss vs Germany at Olympics
Harmanpreet Singh reflected on Team India's semi-final loss to Germany in 2024. Paris Olympics. He described the loss as an unlucky one.
The Indian Hockey Team powered through the entire Paris Olympics like a freight train. Even though they missed out on the gold, the team has never looked so dominant against some of the global powerhouse teams. The Harmanpreet Singh-led side secured the bronze medal, and the captain was the top scorer of the tournament. India's bronze win at the Olympics was historic as they won two consecutive bronze medals for the first time in 52 years. Captain Harmanpreet Singh spoke highly of their win but believes they were unlucky during the semifinal clash against Germany.

While speaking to PTI Videos, Harmanpreet Singh reflected upon Team India's semifinal loss to Germany in 2024. Paris Olympics. The Captain exclaimed that it was an unlucky loss, even though they had several chances to score. Harmanpreet further stated that he was content with the bronze medal finish and he felt happy after winning the match. But the desire to clinch the gold was still there with the Hockey India captain.
“It (semifinal vs Germany) was a very close match. I think we created a lot of chances, but you can say we were not lucky that day and some chances were off-target. But I think the bronze medal was very important. It was the last match of the tournament and feeling very happy after winning the match.
“Our effort was that we should fulfil our dream (of winning gold) but somehow we were unlucky. But, still, we had the bronze medal to play for. So, went into the match with that mindset that we will win. We’ve won back-to-back medals in hockey; it’s a very big thing for us,” Harmanpreet Singh said.

The Indian Hockey team received a warm welcome in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and the captain was speechless after witnessing the love and affection from the fans. The Odisha Government had a felicitation ceremony in place and CM Mohan Charan Majhi was also in attendance.
