Shanghai Masters: Preview for the upcoming men's singles quarterfinals

The men's singles quarterfinals of the Rolex Shanghai Masters are scheduled for Friday, October 11 and will begin at 10:00 am IST. The games will be held at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center, Minhang District, Shanghai. After intense qualifier rounds, only eight men are left as contenders for this prestigious title. The 11th edition of the ATP Shanghai Masters began on Saturday, October 5.

Daniil Medvedev vs Fabio Fognini

Daniil Medvedev qualified for the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals after defeating Canadian Vasek Pospisil 7-6 7-5 on Thursday, October 10. It gave him an ATP tour-leading 56th win of the season. Although it was a close contest, Medvedev saved as many as five set points against Pospisil. On the other hand, Italy's Fabio Fognini beat Karen Khachanov 6-3 7-5 to qualify for the quarterfinals on Thursday. Barring his first-round loss at the US Open a month and a half ago, the Monte Carlo Masters champion has been in great form. 

Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

World #1 Novak Djokovic eased his way into the quarterfinals after edging out John Isner 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday. Djokovic won the title at the Japan Open last week without dropping a set. He will play Stefanos Tsitsipas, who won a tough three-setter against Poland's Hubert Hurkacz. He sealed the deal with a tie-breaker. Their match will start at 11:30 am (IST).

Roger Federer vs Alexander Zverev

Former champion Roger Federer beat David Goffin 7-6 6-4 in a fierce encounter to reach the quarterfinals. Federer had to save five set points in the opening set before completing his win to extend his head-to-head record over Goffin to 10-1. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev got a walkover with a 6-0, 3-0 result over Andrey Rublev on Thursday. The Federer-Zverev match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm (IST) start.

Dominic Thiem vs Matteo Berrettini

After battling illness over the summer, Dominic Thiem recently won the China Open. He defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3 6-4 to advance to the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals without dropping a set. His opponent, Matteo Berrettini, triumphed over Roberto Bautista Agut to make it to the quarterfinals as well. Even though Berrettini lost early in Beijing and St. Petersburg, he has performed well during this ATP Masters 1000 tournament. Their game will begin at 5:20 pm (IST)
