While the unanimous understanding from the fans and the general public is that Manu Bhaker is only reaping the benefits of what she has sown, there is a section who are not on the same wavelength and have pushed flak towards Bhaker for welcoming the commercial deals.
During an interview with the Republic World, India's Olympic champion paid heed to the subject and did not hold back from giving a blunt reply to all the naysayers. Bhaker silenced the critics by stating, where was all the noise when she was not winning, when she needed support.
"See, I'll tell you one thing, if I come across something, like, people are truly sizing me for something that I know anything of that sort. So I just ask myself where were they when I was not winning.
"Where were they when I needed somebody help me. And, you know, I really wanted appreciation from them. They even knew where I am now that I am actually are doing well in life. I cannot, I cannot, you know, pull myself down and be like, change my personality in everything. So I would want to live however I want to."
Bhaker further added that she does not get perturbed by such opinions, and highlighted that she knows her personality and remains true to herself.
"But of course, there are always, you know, you can always improve your personality, but you should not change who you are. So whenever I come across such things, it doesn't really bother me. But when it comes to family, it does."
