Sports News Live: Dahiya's 20 points in vain as Gujarat Giants split points with Dabang Delhi

In a Pro Kabaddi League match played on Wednesday, Gujarat Giants' Parteek Dahiya scored an incredible 20 points, but Dabang Delhi used their reserves to tie the score 39-39 and split the points. 

Ashu Malik and Naveen Kumar, who returned to the arena after missing a few games due to injury, gave Dabang Delhi an early lead of nine points. 

The Gujarat Giants surprised the opposition by substituting Dahiya for Mohit just as Dabang Delhi appeared to be taking a commanding lead.

Sports News Live: Lakshya, Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag pair win opening rounds in China Masters

At the China Masters Super 750 badminton tournament here on Wednesday, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advanced to the second round of the women's and men's singles competitions, respectively, following easy wins, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who play doubles, won their first match following the Paris Olympics after a fierce battle. 

In addition to pulling off an upset, in-form Malvika Bansod, currently ranked 36th in the world, defeated Denmark's world No. 21 Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt 20-22, 23-21, 21-16 to move on to the second round. 

After defeating the higher-ranked Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-17, 21-19 in 50 minutes, world No. 19 Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, recorded her 20th victory in 21 encounters with the Thai shuttler.

Sports News Live: Bihar govt to award each member of Indian women's hockey team

The Bihar government has decided to award Rs 10 lakh to each and every playing member of the Indian women's hockey team that won the Asian Champions Trophy here on Wednesday, beating reigning Olympic medallist China 1-0 in the final.

"Each player in the squad will receive Rs 10 lakh in recognition of their outstanding performance at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium during the course of the tournament," a press release stated.

Even chief coach Harendra Singh and his support staff will be handsomely rewarded by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government.

India's fourth seed Karan Singh overcame early anxiety to defeat fellow countryman Aditya Balsekar and advance to the ITF Kalaburagi Open's second round on Wednesday. Karan found his rhythm in the second set, winning 6-0 with three service breaks after battling hard to win the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (3). 

Later, local player SD Prajwal Dev bounced back from last night's doubles loss by defeating Kazuki Nishiwaki of Japan 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the second round and face second-seeded Russian player Bogdan Bobrov.

Ahead of his matchup with China's Ding Liren, Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi has some advice for World Championship contender D Gukesh: just concentrate on your preparation and don't consider yourself a "huge favourite" going into the title match. Gukesh is considered the clear favourite to win the title, in part due to Liren's lacklustre performances in the run-up to the World Championship match in Singapore on November 25.

"If I were Gukesh, I would not think that I am a huge favourite. I would just try to focus on my preparation and everything. And, I am sure, Gukesh is also doing the same," said Erigaisi

Sports News LIVE: India defend women's ACT title, beat China 1-0 in final

In a thrilling final on Wednesday, the Indian women's hockey team defeated Olympic silver medallist China by a slim 1-0 margin to retain the Asian Champions Trophy title.

With 11 goals, young striker Deepika finished as the tournament's top scorer. She scored India's winning goal from a penalty corner in the 31st minute. Earlier in the tournament, India had blown China away 3-0 in the league stages.

Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who led Inter Miami to the best regular season record in Major League Soccer history this season, is leaving his position as coach. According to the person who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity, Martino, who was hired in July 2023, around the time Lionel Messi made his club debut, made the decision for personal reasons. 

A news conference with Martino and team officials is tentatively scheduled for this Friday. Inter Miami won't meet for training camp to begin the 2025 season until January after losing in the opening round of this year's MLS Cup playoffs.

After Khaleel Ahmed had to be sent home with an undisclosed niggle, left-arm seam bowler Yash Dayal was added to India's reserve pacers list. 

Dayal was in South Africa for the T20I series but did not play a single game despite being added to the Test squad during the Bangladesh series. After Khaleel got a niggle that prevented him from bowling in the nets, he took a plane straight from Johannesburg to Perth.
