It was a time when John Cena was not around, an era when Kane and The Undertaker were striking fear in the minds of their opponents and the curious fans.
It was a time when John Cena was not around, an era when Kane and The Undertaker were striking fear in the minds of their opponents and the curious fans. It was also an era where Triple H was making one and all angry by playing the role of a heel to perfection. In case if you have been watching professional wrestling for a long time, then you will know that the era which is being discussed is none other than the 'Attitude Era' which is arguably the best era of the industry and is also known as its 'Golden Age'.
Now, even the Attitude Era had two of the finest superstars in the history of sports entertainment. They were The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The duo has given the fans so many memorable moments be it in the ring or backstage and one of those moments include their famous match at Wrestlemania X-SEVEN back in 2001.
Stone Cold opens up about his match against The Rock at Wrestlemania 17
The two megastars had clashed at the grandest stage of them all in 2001 where The Rock had defended his World Wrestling Federation (WWF) Championship against Austin which he went on to lose. This was their second match at Wrestlemania. Their first interaction happened at Wrestlemania XV which the 'Texas Rattlesnake' had won as well. However, the difference between these two matches is that Steve was an already established superstar in 1999 while the 'Most Electrifying Man On the Planet' was still an emerging talent.
Another important thing about their build-up to the 17th edition of Wrestlemania is that Austin was a heel while The Rock was a hero. So was the pro-wrestler-turned-actor convinced with this storyline? The answer is 'Yes' as Stone Cold himself has cleared the air on a talk show.
The former wrestler said that Rock was cool with the storyline and at the same time also shared a mutual admiration for his fierce rival by saying that the Texas Rattlesnake brought out the best in The Rock and even 'The People's Champion' always brought out the best in Austin.
Nonetheless, after suffering two losses against his old foe at the wrestling industry's showpiece event, 'The Brahma Bull' would get his revenge on Steve a couple of years later at Wrestlemania XIX which was also Austin's final in-ring appearance.
