ATP Finals: Djokovic can prove superiority over Federer and Nadal

Roger Federer, who lost the opening match of ATP Finals against Dominic Thiem, holds the record for the singles ATP Finals title. The Swiss tennis player has won the title six times, but if Novak Djokovic wins the title this season, he will equal Federer’s record. And if Djokovic emerges as the champion in London, he will equal six titles record in five appearances less than his Swiss rival. Federer also holds the record of 16 appearances in the finals more than any player in history while Novak Djokovic has been in the tournament 11 times.

This year’s ATP finals tournament is more attractive as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are in the race to claim the World No.1 year-end ranking spot. Current World No.1 Nadal leads the ranking for the 197th time in his tennis playing career. But Djokovic, who won the Paris Masters for the fifth time, is now only 640 points behind the Spaniard. Nadal is placed on top of the ranking with 9585 points.

Hence, it is clear that there is a three-way battle between Roger Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal in the on-going ATP Finals tournament as they all compete to finish this year as World No 1. However, Nadal has never been able to win this tournament. He ended being a runner-up in 2010 and 2013. This year, Roger Federer and Djokovic are drawn in the same group along with Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini in the Bjorn Borg group while Nadal is with Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev in the Andre Agassi group.

Movement is key: Novak Djokovic

Talking to the press, the Serbian international, who is currently World No 2, said that he has built his game around his movement on the court and will be using his agility at the tournament. He stated that it allows him to swing through his shots to get some balls that maybe most of the other players cannot get to. He said that he slides a lot, whether its clay, grass, or hardcourt.
