UFC: Khabib Nurmagomedov plans to retire in the next 2 years from MMA

After successfully retaining his lightweight belt at the UFC 242 against Dustin Poirier, Khabib Nurmagomedov is heading towards his next opponent. According to latest media reports, Tony Ferguson is all set to face Khabib for the UFC title but the champion’s recent statement has left all his fans disappointed. At the age of 31, Khabib is already planning his retirement. Even if he manages to defend his title after this much-anticipated fight, 'The Eagle' says that he will fight for only 2-3 years more before retiring.

The Dagestani has had a great journey in the UFC till date. He is undoubtedly the best lightweight and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Khabib Nurmagoomedov has a clean martial art record of 28-0 and his list of achievements include defeating veterans like Edson Barboza, Michael Jhonson, Conor McGregor and the very recent Dustin Poirier at UFC 242. There are a lot of speculations about his upcoming opponents. Tony Ferguson is in the line, Conor McGregor is going crazy over the social media for their re-match and fans are talking about a super fight between Khabib and GSP. But in a recent interview with an Arabian media portal, Khabib revealed his retirement plans.
Khabib stated that it is hard to remain undefeated in any sport and feels that he might face a loss someday. The current lightweight champion of UFC wants to leave his career with a career mark of 30-0 and believes that his goal will be accomplished in the next two years. The news was heartbreaking for his fans and a lot of MMA lovers all over the world but Khabib assured that before retiring, he wants to fight with anyone UFC offers him. He is seeking the best right now and plans to participate in 5-6 fights more.
“Because I don’t want to fight all my life, because I know it’s very hard, and I know a lot of new hungry guys are coming, and I know to always be undefeated, undisputed, this is not almost impossible, I think it’s impossible. Because you can watch in history, like soccer, boxing, MMA, everywhere, one day you’re going to lose. You have to know when you need to stop.
