For WWE fans, the WWE Heavyweight Championship matches were the peak of wrestling glory. WWE players leave no chance to put their hands on this title. We take a look at the three top matches from the era of ruthless aggression.
Edge vs Undertaker
Undertaker has had to defend his Heavyweight Championship several times against Edge. Once was at Backlash 2008 where he was stripped of his title after his submission move was ruled to be too dangerous. In another match, he lost when he was not awarded the title despite a countdown win during Judgement Day.
If you thought The Phenom got third-time lucky against Edge, think again. This time, Undertaker was fighting for his career more than the title in the TLC match. With Edge considered a master of TLC matches, Undertaker started as an underdog. While both wrestlers gave their best performances, Undertaker fell after 30 minutes into the match and never rose again.
Triple H vs Booker T vs Chris Jericho vs Kane vs Rob Van Dam vs Shawn Michael
WWE experimented by holding its first-ever Elimination Chamber match in 2002. The match was a mash-up of Royal Rumble, Hell in a Cell and War Games with six participants - world champion Triple H, Shawn Micheals, Booker T, RVD, Kane and Chris Jericho. Neither the audience, not the participants knew that they were about to create history. The match was an unforgettable one from start to finish, with the six wrestlers beating each other to near death. Triple H took the maximum brunt. A botched frog splash from the ropes left him injured. At the end of the bloody bout, Shawn Michaels pinned Triple H for the count to win his fourth world title.
Jeff Hardy vs CM Punk
CM Punk and Jeff Hardy's feud in the ring got personal quickly. So, when it became known that Hardy would defend his Heavyweight Championship at the Summerslam against CM Punk, the excitement was palpable. The match did not disappoint. Hardy went maverick, by jumping on CM punk from the tallest ladder. Despite his best efforts, CM Punk would get the better of Hardy to win the title. However, CM Punk's celebrations ended soon when Undertaker entered the ring to take him out.
