"NXT has become just another WWE show"
Much like the Monday Night Wars of the late 90s when WWE RAW and WCW Nitro collided every Monday, in 2019 - WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite clash every Wednesday. These "Wednesday Night Wars" are currently being won by AEW as the new show has gotten better ratings than NXT in the last six weeks. When Jericho was asked about his comments on this, he clarified that AEW was not really focusing on this competition or "asking for it."
Jericho also added that these results were obvious to him since AEW had a lot more star-power than NXT did. He also added that, in his opinion, WWE NXT had become just like the other programming in WWE's roster. He compared the debacle to how WWE handled ECW after acquiring the wrestling promotion in the 2000s. Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) was a wrestling promotion in the late 90s which was headed by Paul Heyman and was notorious for its gruesome matches which made it "extreme".
Chris Jericho also went on to add that the AEW is not concerned with who they are going up against. He mentioned competing with other major sporting events like the 'NFL Super Bowl', the 'FIFA World Cup', or even the Beatles, and proceeded to mention how AEW's approach would be the same in all of these situations. Jericho clarified that AEW's focus is only on creating a unique and organic show on its own. He joked about how WWE would try to resurrect NXT by adding some of their star power into it, even if it made no sense.
