The WWE's attempts to develop the modern-day Kurt Angle did not go as planned as Gable Steveson fumbled big time. The Olympic gold medalist could not live up to expectations in the WWE despite the hype. After a three-year stint, Steveson's attempt to enter the NFL also failed. However, the wrestler does not rule out a return to the WWE in the near future.

Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson Doesn't Rules Out The Possibility Of A WWE Return

During a press conference on his return to the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota, Olympic gold medalist and former WWE superstar Gable Steveson spoke about his wrestling run with the Connecticut-based promotion and his NFL run. He spoke highly of both experiences and is also open to pursuing them in the near future.

“The WWE, just wasn’t the right time. I had a lot of competitive edge in me and they knew that and it was just — it was not the time for it and so maybe one day if the stars are aligned, it’ll be a great opportunity to do it again. I have no bad feelings with it, I have no bad blood with it and I would like to keep moving forward with everything I have going on…

“The NFL situation — just definitely a great thing to do. A lot of people know I never played football before, so [head coach] Sean McDermott and [general manager] Brandon Beane and Buffalo Bills reached out and was like, ‘Hey, do you want to come try? We’ll give you the best chance’. And so, they did and I got a few tackles in a couple games and a few QB hits. Had a few other teams reach out to me previously before coming back to here so, maybe after the season, it’s another opportunity to get a Futures deal with the team or go on from there,” Gable Steveson said.

Gable Steveson signed a three-year deal with the WWE to become a superstar wrestler. He was touted as a modern-day Kurt Angle but could not make much from his run in the company. He had a couple of matches before eventually parting ways with the WWE and joined the Buffalo Bills practice squad. But that did not work out either, as he was eventually released from the squad. He has now returned to wrestle in his final year of NCAA eligibility at the University of Minnesota.
