WWE's ambitions to grow as a global brand is set to continue despite it not being able to acquire Japan's popular league, Pro Wrestling Noah successfully. According to media reports, the WWE was extremely confident about successfully completing a takeover to expand its footprint in the ever-growing Japanese market. However, it has been not been able to do so. As a result, the WWE will go for its alternate strategy by setting up NXT Japan as a new brand of its own, much on the lines of NXT UK. An official announcement of the Japan launch is expected to be made this Friday and WWE fans are already loving the idea.

WWE NXT Japan

In a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, American reporter Dave Meltzer said that the WWE made the plan of purchasing Pro Wrestling Noah to use it as a launchpad for their new venture WWE NXT Japan. However, there has been no final news update regarding it and it seems that the Noah brand is going to remain steady in Japan. Japan is surely the hub of pro wrestling and WWE can generate a lot of new viewership with a hold on the Japanese market.

WWE has recently gone up with the idea of ‘global localization’ and it is actually benefiting them in a lot of ways. Apart from viewership and popularity, the concept of ‘global localization’ has fetched a lot of new, overseas talents for the WWE and the move towards Japan has the same objective. So far, the WWE has launched Performance Centres in Florida and London with Tokyo next in line as well.

WWE: Japanese Talents

After the rise of superstars like Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka, WWE has realised that they should have targeted the Japanese domain much earlier. 'The Land of the Rising Sun' has produced talents like Genichiro Tenryu and Great Sasuke, who have dominated the WWE ring for a steady amount of time. After the success of NXT in the UK, Japan is the next great destination for popularising NXT. WWE is also planning to sign more Japanese wrestlers in their roster.
