BSNL – Yupp TV ink pact for content streaming, on-demand services

BSNL and Yupp TV have now inked a deal to offer content streaming to users – broadband subscribers of the telco across India. This means that Yupp TV would now be offering on-demand content across the BSNL network. At this point in time, BSNL has begun testing 4G networks, but is yet to launch full-fledged 4G services. This is expected to come to the fore soon.
BSNL-Yupp TV pact - in tandem with BSNL 4G
Now, with the new Yupp TV partnership, the state-led telco would be offering content streaming – from Yupp TV across its 2G, 3G networks in a wholesome manner along with that of on 4G. As of now, Yupp TV offers content in as many as 12 languages across the whole of the South Asian geography. The new partnership would also encompass BSNL’s broadband along with that of the fixed-line subscribers across India. Commenting on the partnership with Yupp TV, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director MK Purwar stated, “BSNL has 120 million users. Yupp brings content on global scale. We will work on a very unique proposition to bring highly rich experience to customer on strong technology backbone. Marriage between infotainment and telecom networks will happen.”
Seconding Purwar’s views, Uday Reddy, Founder and CEO at Yupp TV added, “We have an opportunity to leverage the vast network cultivated by BSNL and bring forth superior technology products and features to a burgeoning user base.” In related news, a recovery package for BSNL has been announced by the central government. This includes merger of MTNL with BSNL and a Rs 320000 crore worth of package realized through monetization of assets and sovereign bonds. Full-fledged 4G spectrum to the telco has also been announced. This means that BSNL, which has been struggling for a while now could make a quicker-than-anticipated comeback to the telecoms pace it once dominated. The telco has already committed to this.
